OS X Stuff

I spent years only using Linux and when you spend that amount of time working on the same platform you start to get really familiar with what tools are essentials.

I’ve recently made the switch to OS X with a shiny new MacBook Pro and over the last few months I’ve come to learn a whole new set of tools that I’m starting to find essential.

Here is the list, so far…

MAMP
The indispensable one-stop-shop for getting Apache, PHP and MySQL running on your Mac.

TextMate
Not just an editor for OS X – It’s THE editor for OS X

Transmission
Very lightweight and usable BitTorrent client

TunnelBlick
Nice little OpenVPN client

HandBrake
Killer DVD Ripper for OS X

CoRD
Windows Remote Desktop Protocol client

TrueCrypt
The one and only bad ass encryption tool

Twitterific
Kick ass twitter client for Mac

Adobe Creative Suite
I hate that it’s not open source, but you can’t deny the power of Photoshop, Acrobat, Flash, InDesign, Dreamweaver and Illustrator. Too bad they’re INSANE EXPENSIVE!

Adium X
Nice Multi-Chat client.

Parallels
Need to run Windows, Linux or just about any other OS inside OS X? No Sweat.

That’s it so far but more will be added as I get around to it.
